Yorkville Neighbourhood
Condo Developments
Yorkville is one of Toronto's sleekest upscale districts. In the 1960s the tree-lined streets, twisting back lanes and charming village houses were transformed into Toronto's own hippie happening. As the sixties love gave way to the seventies lucre, the coffee houses and head shops transformed again into designer boutiques and up-scale galleries. Today glitz prevails, but occasionally down an alley or through an old fence, a glimpse of the sleepy village appears. If you like to shop where the celebrities spend their cash, then head to to this tony 'hood. Some of the city’s most exclusive retail shops line these streets. Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and many more upscale designer labels can be found here. A great neighbourhood for window shopping, Yorkville is a place to see, even if you can’t afford to splurge. With its mix of art galleries, fashion boutiques, antique stores, cafes and restaurants, it’s a popular choice for both locals and tourists. And during TIFF (the annual Toronto International Film Festival), which has many locations in and around the area, Yorkville turns into a ‘party central.’ Best done on foot, Yorkville and Bloor Street (also known as the Mink Mile) features attractive courtyards, alleyways, and a contemporary park in the heart of the neighbourhood, which makes for an enjoyable stroll. Famed restaurants Sassafraz, Prego Della Piazza and Vaticano are located in Yorkville. It underwent a full restoration and reopened in September 2007. The MTV Canada headquarters are located in Yorkville as well. Canada's largest museum and the fifth largest in North America, the Royal Ontario Museum is located at the intersection of Bloor and Avenue Rd. The area north of Bloor St. on Cumberland and Yorkville contain petite streets with cafes, restaurants and specialty boutiques. It resembles more of a European style district. Whether you enjoy taking a stroll through the park, playing a game of tennis, or taking in some great knowledge through the local libraries and museums, you’re sure to keep busy while in the Yorkville neighbourhood! Education is an important stage for all ages. Children can attend Jesse Ketchum Jr. & Sr. elementary public school, and the teenagers can attend Jarvis Collegiate Institute which is a public secondary school. There’s also the University of Toronto Schools, for anyone interested in private schooling. Transportation out of the Yorkville neighbourhood is simple. The subway station is in walking distance from anywhere in Yorkville, and the subway will get you quickly across Toronto. For those who prefer to travel by car, Yorkville is only minutes away from downtown Toronto Yorkville is also home to some of Toronto's most expensive condominiums, most starting at over one million dollars and going well beyond, including: The Prince Arthur, Renaissance Plaza, 10 Bellair, One St. Thomas, Windsor Arms Hotel, The Hazelton Hotel & Residences, Hazelton Lanes.
