Midtown Toronto Neighbourhood
Condo Developments
The centre of midtown and one of Toronto's four major city centres, "Yonge and Eg" is the junction of North York. The immediate area includes several high-rise office buildings, the busy Eglinton Station, and a large mall-office complex. It is home to numerous restaurants, two multiplex cinemas, and a diverse retail strip. Since about 2000, this region has been undergoing a surge in commercial and residential development and a massive influx of young urban professional singles and families. Yonge and Eglinton At the heart of Midtown, Yonge and Eg has in recent years spawned development, including a number of big-box retailers and tall, high density residential condos. Development has concentrated around the Eglinton subway station, and has resulted in a mixed-use neighbourhood with a mix of detached houses, townhouses, and high rises. The Eglinton–Scarborough Crosstown line is expected to further boost development. The area is home to a variety of small retail stores, restaurants, larger stores, and a mall/movie theatre complex. Numerous public high schools dot the neighbourhood, including North Toronto Collegiate Institute, Northern Secondary, Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, several private schools, and the TCDSB (Catholic board) Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School and St. Monica's Catholic Elementary School. Public parks in the area include Eglinton Park, Oriole Park and the Belt Line Railway. Davisville Davisville is a major commercial community in midtown Toronto and an attractive area to live in for many Torontonians. Although it is densely populated, it is also known for being very "green". The neighbourhood is serviced by its own subway station along the Yonge subway line. Davisville homes provide ready-access recreational facilities and greenspace, superb shopping districts, and an active nightlife of pubs, restaurants and movie theatres. Besides, while prices are not cheap, they remain reasonable for this prime location. Davisville's main shopping district is on Mount Pleasant Road. For people who like to browse through antique and collectible shops, many boutiques offer treasures of bygone eras and contemporary pieces by local and national artisans. Home decorating stores, children's clothing and toy stores and convenience stores supplying last-minute essentials all add to the ambience of this street. Here, you will also find a selection of fine restaurants and many family-oriented specialty shops. Another quaint neighbourhood in Toronto is the Mount Pleasant area. It is the region between Davisville and Eglinton. It is a lovely street lined with unique shops, a few cafes and the largest model railroad store in Canada. The street is charming and very relaxing for an afternoon stroll, even if you do not like shopping. If you like shopping there are many little shops to pick up some home decor items as well as stationery, books and gift ware. There are also a handful of antique stores and one in particular has some amazing antiquarian maps and prints. It is a great area to do Christmas shopping in as there is something there for everyone, making it pretty easy. This street is actually enjoyable to visit at any time of the year. (Public transit: the 74 Mt. Pleasant bus from St. Clair subway station only runs every half hour. For more frequent service, go to Davisville subway station and take an 11 Bayview or 28 Davisville bus to Mt. Pleasant Road. Once you've walked up to Eglinton, you can catch any westbound bus back to Eglinton subway station.)
